Associate Printer Research Engineer

Description
We are seeking a highly enthusiastic, talented, and curious star performer who will work on a wide range of engineering tasks in support of the design and development of our 3D printing and processing technologies, with an emphasis on print quality improvement. The successful candidate will be passionate about working on complex problems that involve advanced optical concepts, materials, mechanics, electronics, and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Work within a cross functional team to brainstorm, design, and develop hardware, software, and methods in support of Quadratic 3D’s innovative 3D printing methods.
- Design, prototype, and characterize a wide range of experimental optical / electrical / mechanical setups.
- Develop and code inventive software algorithms for machine control and image processing.
- Perform printing and post-processing of parts
- Analyze printed parts using a wide range of metrology techniques, including CT scanning, microscopy, and optical profilometry.
- Facilitate collaboration between chemists and engineers to address challenges and drive advancements in our technology.
- Recommend, document, and implement methods for printer routine maintenance.
- Coordinate with external vendors to identify and source parts and metrology equipment for printer development.
- Assist with incoming inspection of lasers and other optical equipment.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including experimental results and analyses, SOPs, BOMs, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related degree with relevant coursework.
- Hands on experience with optics, electronics, mechanics, software development, systems engineering, and experimental design.
- Solid background in mathematics (trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra) and physics (mechanics, optics, photonics).
- >1 year of experience in contributing toward the development of instrumentation and analysis of data within an academic or industrial environment.
- Experience with programming in Python and data analysis using Excel.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong team player.
- Highly effective out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills (e.g. laboratory notebook entries, presentations, and reports).
- Comfortable presenting to others and interfacing with potential customers and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years in an industrial product development setting.
- Experience with building, aligning, and testing laser-based optical systems and working within a laser safety-controlled environment.
- Experience with using Github, and serial communication libraries for controlling lab instruments.
- Experience with calibration and statistical analysis.
- Experience working with electromechanical components, such as motion stages, sensors, PLCs, actuators, spatial light modulators.
- Experience with electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power meters, function generators.
- Ability to independently plan and execute experiments with minimal guidance.
- Familiarity with fundamental principles of optical physics and photopolymerization.
- Exposure to typical 3D printing technologies and understanding of 3D and 2D modeling and data representations.
- Experience aligning optical systems with specialized components, such as spatial light modulators
